Hamish Isn't Well

Don't know what's up but Hamish seems very sad this morning, he got up a bit later than usual then didn't seem to want to go out, when I encouraged him to go out he just sat out in the middle of the lawn looking very sad

I've checked him over and he doesn't seem to have any specific pain anywhere but he does seem to be walking very slowly when he is moving

They had to take angus to vet as soon as they got there. Tania found a lump near his nose. They think it may be a infected insect bite so have given some ointment. If no better by wednesday, they will do a biopsy to send off incase it's a " nasty " lump. Tania will keep me posted.

I am taking Coco to the national breed club's show in August. She will be about 5,5 months during the show so she will be able to attend to the little puppy class which is for puppies from 5 to 7 months. I will have some toy with me and try to make her first show as fun as possible

I have been teaching Coco how to stand on table so she will think it is perfectly natural. She is quite good already. Now I have only myselft to blaim if she is lacking practise

Coco and Hj�rdis are going to the national terrier speciality on 30th of August.

Coco will be in the minor puppy class and Hj�rdis in the open class

After this there is going to be a brake for both the girls. Coco can perhaps go to an unofficial puppyshow to train but the next show for both is the Finnish Winner 2008 in December.

Daisy Is In Hospital

My poor baby was so poorly last night - I was up until 5am with her, just standing in the garden while she had diarrhoea and was sick. I would take her up to bed, and she would just settle down and up she would get again. She has had D & V for three days, but I thought we were getting over it. Anyway I took her to the Animal Hospital today and they have kept her in and hooked her up to a drip as she has lost a lot of weight and was dehydrated.

I'm sure she will be OK but obviously ...

What a extremely hot and hard day. Fortunately we had a possibility to get ready in the shadow. Still it was way too hot for Olli. He was very thired and felt a bit ill in the morning, we think he got kind of a heat stroke or something.

I think the judge likes him.

Olli got the best quality grade EXCELLENT with a pink ribbon. Then he was the second bes male in the Open class and the 4th best male westie in the show!

Does your Westie have Beard Staining

Molly has a mixture of human foods & when I don't cook 'Burns' dog food. I'm not sure what is causing the beard staining...the dog food perhaps!

I once gave her a diet of just human foods, but it's not always possible for me to cook everyday. I did notice there was less staining on the beard with human food. Molly also licks her face area & paws frequently...and rubs her nose against the rugs.

The vet just suggest skin allergy testing... ...

Just walking up the lane at the back of our house and trying to make sure Angus steered clear of bushes and grass, he still came home with 3..

2 were dead, I think he must have picked these up the previous day and frontline had taken effect because they were dead and almost fell out. The other was just sitting on his fur waiting ...

I have been working with Hj�rdis' coat for a year now. Her coat was not groomed very well when she arrived so it has been a lot of work

Because of the puppies there was a 3,5 months break. The whelping caused the coat to soften and grow too long. So now I am little by little grooming the coat into a better condition. I will do it every 4 weeks untill the end of August. It is the national terrier show then. The judge is from Spain and I do not know if she knows anything about westies but ...

Bradley and Rosie were groomed this morning and we were both rather shocked when we picked them up. Neither of them have ever been large but they both look positively skinny - going to get Mick to bring them in when I am ready to go home and stand them on our large platform scales (meant for parcels really ). They are so energetic I think perhaps they are using up more calories than they are taking in and perhaps need a bit of an increase in their meal portions.

Like I told you earlier Arn had a surgery or more like an operation yesterday.

This was due to the fact that his under canine teeth (unpermanent ones) are wrongly placed in his mouth and causing the risk of the under canine teeth hitting to the gums in upperjaw and causing an opening. There is also a risk of a jawlock. So after following the development (there was none) the vet who is an expert of dental issues suggested that Arn's under canine teeth would be removed. This morning, when Jerry was resting, I placed my face near his neck area, just to see if he's all right from the other day's growl play.

No, it wasn't ok. He reacted after about 2 seconds - turned over and bite my left side of the neck. Quite a bad cut. It smarted and I did scruffing on him with my other hand while one hand covered the wounds.

I noticed he has this aggression problem since last year, whenever he takes vet's medicine, or had nature diet's food or those meaty treats. ...

I am calling them "Hopes" or "Toivot" in Finnish because the word "souhaits" means "hopes" in English and "toiveet" in Finnish.

Both Alpin and Hjordis just love the toys by Nina Ottoson that we have at home. When ever I take in my hands one of the yellow boxes the toys are packed in the dogs begin jumping around. There are several different toys. The basic idea is that you show the dog how it works and then the dog must learn to to it. And when he learns the toy will give the dog "a reward" (something good to eat). I usually have a little pieces of cheese or sausage.
